Pierce Brosnan his James Bond successor Daniel Craig the green light to go after 007, even though he was heartbroken his tenure as the superspy had come to an end.
Brosnan was unceremoniously dumped as Bond when producers decided they needed a younger man to play 007, but the Irish actor had no problems with Craig taking over.
The new Bond reveals he approached Brosnan at an awards show in Britain weeks before he landed the role and asked his fellow actor for the OK to proceed if he got the nod.
Craig recalls: "After dinner, after having enough to drink, I just went over and said, 'Look, it's not on the cards (but) it might be on the cards. If it were to be on the cards, what should I do?' And he said, 'Go for it. Just go for it. You've got to have a go at this.'"
He'll never forget Brosnan's kind words, but they didn't help the Irishman leapfrog Sean Connery as Craig's favourite Bond: "It's nothing against Pierce."
