The volume of retail sales increased by 6.3% in June 2006 compared to June 2005. There was a monthly increase of 2.3%.
If car sales are excluded the annual increase was 6.5% and the monthly change was +0.8%
The value of retail sales increased by 8.5% in June 2006 compared to June 2005 and increased by 2.3% in the month. However, if car sales are excluded, the annual increase was 8.0% and the monthly change was +0.9%.
The three-month March 2006 – May 2006 volume figures show that, compared with the three months ending February 2006:
* The largest increase in the volume of sales was in the departments stores (+7.6%) sector.
* The largest decrease in the volume of sales was in the motor trade (-3.5%) sector.
