This afternoon's meeting at Newcastle goes ahead following two morning inspections.

Officials at Gosforth Park were forced to assess conditions at 9am and 11am after overnight temperatures dipped to -3.5C.

Although the course was frozen in places following an initial inspection, conditions have improved sufficiently for clerk of the course James Armstrong to give the thumbs-up to the jumps fixture.

Armstrong said: "Temperatures are up 6C and the sun is shining, so we are fine."
