William Hague has stepped down as leader of the Conservative Party, following their heavy defeat in the British General Election.
"I believe a new leader must be elected in time for the party conference in October," he said.
He added the Conservatives had run a "united, although albeit unsuccessful" campaign.
He said to Conservative party voters: "I wish I could have led you to victory".
