The death toll from landslides and floods in Vietnam’s six northern mountainous provinces has risen to 22 following the recovery of seven more bodies, officials said.

The Central Committee for Floods and Storms Control says landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains on Friday night also left 13 others missing.

The committee said on its website today the landslides and floods also destroyed or damaged more than 500 houses and hundreds of hectares of rice fields.

Vietnam is prone to floods and storms which kill hundreds of people each year.
