Fame Academy reject Ulrika Jonsson had a lucky escape today after TV viewers tried to dub her one of the most unpopular people in Britain.
She would have made the top 20 of a huge Channel 4 poll to name the 100 worst living Brits.
But she has now been ruled out of the voting – which will be used for a TV special – because she is Swedish.
Stockholm-born Jonsson, 35, has been piling on the votes and would have been in the upper reaches, according to show chiefs.
She would have been alongside figures such as Anthea Turner and Geri Halliwell.
Voting at the web site www.channel4.com/worst closes on Sunday night and the programme will be screened in May.
Jonsson was given the boot from the BBC’s Comic Relief version of Fame Academy on Tuesday evening.
A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: “Ulrika has had a substantial number of votes, particularly this week because of her high profile.
“She would have been up there with Anthea Turner, Jordan, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham as one of our most annoying women.
“But the fact is she is not eligible because she is Swedish.”
