John Travolta has defended fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise's right to believe in what he likes after the actor attracted criticism for comments he made in video footage leaked online.

'Mission: Impossible' star Cruise has come under fire for footage in which he accuses US government officials of lying to the public in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

His comments were made in a newly-surfaced video promoting Scientology.

However, Travolta insists Cruise's controversial views should be of no concern.

He tells website People.com: "Tom has - we all have - the right to practice how we feel."
