A bomb has ripped through a crowded vegetable market in the outskirts of the Pakistani federal capital Islamabad, wounding at least 20 people.

A crude homemade bomb, hidden in a crate of vegetables, exploded during the peak morning rush hour.

It has destroyed a van and damaging two wooden cabins and at least two of the victims are in a serious condition.

Security forces surrounded the area soon after the explosion.

No-one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Police say they are investigating, but have no suspects so far.

In recent months, scores of people have been killed and wounded in a series of explosions in major Pakistani cities. Pakistani authorities have blamed neighbour and rival India for the acts of sabotage.

India denies the charge and accuses Pakistan of fomenting violence in its troubled region of Kashmir. Pakistan rejects Indian allegations.
