A grenade exploded in the Kuwaiti Information Office in Beirut today, killing a man and wounding two other people, Lebanese security officials said.

It was not immediately known how the grenade came to be in the Information Office. Initially the security officials said a parcel bomb had exploded as one of the wounded was opening it.

The dead man was Ayyas al-Alayli, a Lebanese employee at the Information Office, who was playing with the grenade when it exploded. He later died in hospital.

Two other wounded – Hussam al-Jamal and Mirna Mugharbel, a woman – were taken to hospital after the explosion in the Sanayeh district, officials said.
