A bomb exploded in central Jerusalem today, and police reported several casualties.

Israeli media said it was a suicide bomber.

Police said there were a number of people wounded and that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber.

The blast occurred near a food stall on Hanevi’im street in the city centre.

It was the first suicide bombing in Jerusalem since a pair of attacks June 18-19 killed 26 Israelis and prompted the army to occupy seven of the eight major Palestinian towns in the West Bank.

The bomber is believed to have been killed in the attack.
