The future of Edredon Bleu is in the balance following a lacklustre performance by the 2003 King George VI Chase winner at Wincanton today.
The 13-year-old started an easy-to-back 4-1 chance for the Country Gentlemen’s Association Chase but was in trouble early on the second circuit and was pulled up by Jim Culloty before the end of the back stretch.
This was a fourth disappointing run in succession by the popular veteran, and Culloty conceded that discussions would inevitably take place as to his future involving himself, trainer Henrietta Knight and owner Jim Lewis.
The jockey said: “We didn’t go very quick but I still wasn’t happy. Normally he will come from out of your hands and stand right off. Although the ground was a fraction dead for him, he didn’t give me his old feel.”
