Celtic star Neil Lennon today announced he expects to retire from international football after allegedly receiving a death threat from a terrorist group prior to Northern Ireland’s friendly with Cyprus.

Lennon was forced to withdraw on police advice despite being made skipper of the side after the BBC‘s Belfast office were said to have received a threat from the Loyalist Volunteer Force.

The Catholic midfielder immediately sought the advice of his family before making his decision today.

“I can‘t put them through this every time,” he told ITN.
