It was ‘six of the best’ for 2004 Vodafone All-Star nominee Paddy Bradley as he hit the winning point for Derry in their 0-08 to 1-04 Dr McKenna Cup Section B clash with Armagh today.
Glenullin forward Bradley struck the injury-time winner – his sixth point of the afternoon, having scored four in the first half. The sides were locked 0-04 to 1-01 at the break.
TG4 Underdogs hero Barry Murray netted for the second successive game, having goaled in his debut against UUJ last Sunday, with Armagh’s point coming from Ronan Austin.
However, scores in the second half from Bradley, Sean-Marty Lockhart and Johnny McBride saw the Oak Leaf side victorious in their first game of 2005. Their re-fixed tie with Queen’s University takes place next Wednesday at Lavey.
Also in Section B, Down were upset 0-08 to 0-07 by Queen’s in Newcastle. Ironically, Aidan Carr – son of long-time Down forward Ross – kicked the winning point as James McCartan’s side grabbed the spoils.
Holders Tyrone picked up their second Section A win, beating UUJ 0-18 to 0-07. Stephen O’Neill accounted for six points in the first half as Mickey Harte’s men established a 0-12 to 0-02 lead.
Brian Dooher tagged on the insurance scores in the second half.
Antrim and Cavan were level six times at Casement Park, but the Saffrons eventually slipped to their second defeat. Seanie Johnson bagged seven points for Cavan in a 0-13 to 0-11 win.
Elsewhere, there were Section C successes for Donegal (3-09 to 0-09 winners over St Mary’s), and Fermanagh – who had Raymie Gallagher among the goal-scorers in their 2-10 to 2-07 defeat of Monaghan.
