Down 1-10, Sligo 1-11 (full-time)

Despite being reduced to 14 players in the final 15 minutes, Sligo came from behind with two late points by sub Martin Brehony to claim their first Div 1B points as they shocked Down in this exciting game in Newry.

Sligo proved to be a much fitter and more compact side using the ball intelligently and taking some excellent scores.

Down dominated the opening quarter and led by three points but were rocked in the 16th minute by a goal by Sean Davey, followed by two points from Gerry McGowan.

Down hit back with a goal from Benny Coulter, five minutes from half-time, and led by 1-05 to 1-04 at the interval.

It was point-for-point in the second half until Down produced some of their best football midway through to lead by 1-08 to 1-06 with 10 minutes remaining.

It was then that Sligo made their big effort, scoring those two vital points by Brehony, which saw them collect their opening points in the league.
