Harsh Times

Director: David Ayer

Cast: Christian Bale, Eva Longoria, Freddy Rodriguez, Tammy Trull

Cert: 15

Ex-Army fruitcake Bale arrives in LA, having promised girlfriend Trull that she can join him when he gets work. Which doesn’t happen.

His harsh times include drugs, guns and women and we have a film that makes ordinary depression feel like a jolly day of unmitigated fun.

You certainly won’t emerge from this one whistling the tunes – director Ayer has a decidedly downcast view of society – but you will be surprised at another interesting performance from Bale.

Star Rating: 2/5
