The fastest try in rugby history was scored today by 19-year-old Welshman Dafydd Howells.
Howells crossed the whitewash with just seven seconds on the clock in Wales’ 48-19 rout of Fiji in the Junior World Cup this morning.
The Fijians’ non-existent kick-off structure allowed Howells to race onto the bouncing ball and glide past the opposing winger before diving into the corner as the backtracking Fijian defenders scrambled to catch him.
It’s believed the previous officially recognised fastest try was held by Leeds Carnegie centre Lee Blackett who dotted down after just 8.28 seconds following a similar defensive mistake from the kick-off in a 2008 Guinness Premiership match.
Below, for your enjoyment, are a few more of the quickest tries ever scored.
