McAvoy unfazed by awards snub

Scottish actor James McAvoy is not upset by his failure to land any major awards for his performances in Last King of Scotland and 'Atomement' - insisting he doesn't need prizes to feel rewarded.

Scottish actor James McAvoy is not upset by his failure to land any major awards for his performances in Last King of Scotland and 'Atomement' - insisting he doesn't need prizes to feel rewarded.

The 28-year-old's co-star Forest Whitaker went on to win a clutch of gongs - including a Best Actor Oscar - for his role in the 2006 film based on the life of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, while McAvoy walked away empty-handed.

And despite earning a Best Actor nomination for Atonement at the 2008 BAFTA awards, McAvoy lost out to Daniel Day-Lewis.

He also missed out on a nomination at this year's Academy Awards, even though the film was tipped to sweep the board at the ceremony.

However, McAvoy refuses to take media reports claiming he has been snubbed to heart.

He says: "Oh, I don't feel hard done by. If the people around you are great, you're going to be better. Last King of Scotland and Atonement are two of the best jobs I've ever done, personally and professionally, I have been rewarded. My career got better because of them, and things like that."
