Swede Richard Karlberg posted a three-under-par 69 to hold a one-stroke lead at the halfway point of the SAIL Open at Delhi Golf Club.
Playing in only his second Asian Tour tournament, overnight leader Karlberg retained his place at the top of the leaderboard in following up yesterday’s 65 with four birdies on his second nine to overcome a bogey at the 16th.
“It was a good recovery on the back nine and my game plan is to get to 18-under, I think that would be the winning score,” said the 23-year-old, who heads the field on 10-under.
Veteran Indian Gaurev Ghei shot a 67 to lie second on nine under, while compatriot Shamim Khan and Thai golfer Chinnarat Phadungsil are tied for third a shot back following rounds of 69 and 70 respectively.
Ghei eagled the first but after a birdie at the 11th was cancelled out by a dropped shot at the 13th, three birdies over the final four holes saw the 41-year-old close in on Karlberg.
“It was a strange round because I started off hitting it really well but couldn’t covert my chances,” he said.
“On the back nine I was hitting it average but holed a few putts.”
