Gang member jailed in Rhys Jones case

Gang member James Yates was jailed for seven years today for his part in helping teenage gunman Sean Mercer evade justice after shooting schoolboy Rhys Jones in Liverpool, England.

Gang member James Yates was jailed for seven years today for his part in helping teenage gunman Sean Mercer evade justice after shooting schoolboy Rhys Jones in Liverpool, England.

Rhys (aged 11) was murdered by Mercer in Croxteth, Liverpool, in August 2007.

He was convicted last month after a nine-week trial. His co-accused were convicted of assisting an offender.

Three other members of Mercer’s gang, Croxteth Crew – Nathan Quinn (aged 18), Dean Kelly (aged 17) and Boy M (aged 16) – were also sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today.

Quinn was jailed for two years in addition to a five-year sentence he is already serving for a previous gun-related offence.
