Radiohead release new album
Radiohead kept fans on their toes once again today by releasing their new album today, a day early.
Only days ago, the band made a surprise announcement to say their eighth studio release, 'The King Of Limbs', was due tomorrow.
But they were unable to wait even that long and made the eight-track album available early to fans who had ordered it through their website.
The internet was soon abuzz with excitement from devotees with the album title quickly becoming one of the most popular phrases on social networking site Twitter this morning.
The band’s frontman, Thom Yorke, and new track 'Lotus Flower' were also much-discussed.
Radiohead have again bypassed major labels and released the album through their website.
They ended their long association with EMI’s Parlophone label after six albums and opted to go it alone for 2007 release In Rainbows.
A CD and vinyl version of the new album will be available in a few weeks through independent label XL, with a luxury box set to follow in May.
The band announced on Monday that the album was complete and ready for release with a message headed simply “thank you for waiting”.
The album features eight tracks with titles such as 'Bloom', 'Feral' and 'Give Up The Ghost'.
A statement on behalf of Radiohead said: “With everything ready on their website, the band decided to bring forward the release by a day as there was no need to wait until the planned date of Saturday Feb 19 to deliver the music.”
The album again sees the band straddling Warp Records-style electronica and experimental rock, with frantic, clicking guitars on 'Morning Mr Magpie' while the intro to 'Little By Little' harks back to 'Go To Sleep' from the 2003 album 'Hail To The Thief'.
'Codex' sees Yorke performing to a sparse mournful piano.
The band also released a promo for the song 'Lotus Flower' today, posting it on video-sharing website YouTube.
It featured frontman Yorke, often portrayed as angry and forlorn, showing a new side to himself with vigorous dance moves in a black and white film.
