Corrie star Whittaker thanks fans and cast for support after cancer scare
Sally Whittaker's faith in humanity was restored after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 'Coronation Street' actress, who was given the terrible news just days after being told her alter-ego Sally Webster was to be diagnosed with the same illness, cannot believe how much support she has received from both the public and her castmates.
She told the Daily Mail newspaper: "One lady saw me in the street and said, 'I just need to give you a hug.' People are so caring - it does restore your faith in human nature.
"The 'Coronation Street' cast have been amazing. I've had texts all the way through my treatment, they've visited, they've sent me jokes and given me just so much love."
The mother-of-three, who is on her way to making a full recovery and is now back at work, was overwhelmed with the welcome she received when she returned to the ITV1 soap.
She said: "When I walked in to start work again and saw people I hadn't seen for six months, I wanted to burst into tears. They gave me a round of applause and had filled my dressing room with flowers, wine and other gifts."
Whittaker, 47, will be back on TV screens in July.
