Twelve Russian nuclear workers have been exposed to radiation which exceeded the normal levels while working at a nuclear dumpsite on the Arctic Kola Peninsula, but their health wasn’t in danger, officials said.

The incident happened in Gremikha, a navy base which is home to decommissioned nuclear submarines, said Nuclear Power Ministry spokesman Nikolai Singaryov.

He said the workers stayed longer than allowed at a storage for radioactive waste in Gremikha and received excessive doses of radiation.

“All of them are feeling fine, and medical checks have revealed no damage to their health,” Singaryov said.
