Hundreds of balloons carrying an appeal for Madeleine McCann are to be released by children at the school where her aunt is a teacher, it was announced today.

Pupils from Bankhead Primary School in Knightswood, Glasgow, are behind tomorrow’s balloon launch.

Madeleine’s aunt, Diane McCann, is a primary three teacher at the school and the pupils and staff were keen to support her and her family.

Around 400 balloons will be released which will all have a tag attached with the Madeleine appeal information, including the UK and international telephone numbers for people to pass on any relevant information.

The hope is that the balloons will travel across Europe and help publicise the campaign currently being undertaken by the McCann family and friends.

Mrs McCann said: “The family is delighted with the efforts of my colleagues and the pupils at the school – any help that can keep Madeleine in the public eye is very gratefully received.”
