Australia blaze accused appears in court

A male nurse in Australia has appeared in court charged with multiple counts of murder after a fire at a Sydney care-home killed five people.

Thirteen others remain critically ill following the blaze on Thursday.

Suspect Roger Dean, aged 35, has been remanded to reappear in court next Thursday.

Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard has described the incident as "horrifying".

"Frail, elderly people caught up in a fire like that - my condolences do go to the families who have lost loved ones, and to those whose loved ones are now in hospital," Premier Gillard said.
