Trio axed from Offaly squad

Offaly senior football manager Emmet McDonnell has axed Ross Brady, Richie Dalton and Sean Pender from his squad following a breach of discipline.

The trio missed a training session earlier this month and have been removed from the panel, having failed to in form the management of their reasons for being absent.

It is highly unlikely that the players will feature again in McDonnell's Championship plans this summer, with the Westmeath native key to lay down a 'no nonsense' policy in his initial months as the Faithfuls boss.

However, McDonnell is not ruling out a return to action for the players in the future.

"If players are showing the commitment to play for the county I won't close the door," he said.

McDonnell is expected to confirm his Championship panel today ahead of the Offaly's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Kildare at Croke Park on June 1.

Gavin Shiel is ruled out of contention having played illegally for Tullamore in the Offaly Senior Football Championship.

Eoin Rigney has gone to America, but there is some good news with Johnny Brickland back in the frame having returned from injury.
