Nancy: I miscarried Sven's baby

Nancy Dell’Olio disclosed today she had miscarried England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson’s baby.

Nancy Dell’Olio disclosed today she had miscarried England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson’s baby.

The fiery Italian lawyer, who temporarily split from Eriksson following allegations of his affair with Football Association secretary Faria Alam, also hinted the pair are unlikely to marry.

She opened her heart about falling pregnant by Eriksson during an interview with the Evening Standard’s ES magazine.

The 43-year-old said the matter of whether or not the couple have children in the future is “in God’s hands”, although she fears her temperament is not suited to motherhood.

She said: “I’ve been up and down about the idea of children. Actually, it happened a few years ago but I lost the baby, so it’s in God’s hands. Things are as they are.

“Maybe it will happen but I’m unsure. I’d be afraid of getting too obsessed. I’m such a possessive person and I fear I’d be that way with a child.”

Asked if she would ever marry Eriksson, with whom she shares a £2m (€2.9m) mansion near London’s Regent’s Park, she replied: “Maybe. When you live with someone it’s not so different to being married and, personally, I don’t really distinguish between the two.

“In this way you know that you make your choice every day so you make a constant effort. I like to keep some mystery and if you’re not married, sometimes it’s easier to hold on to the passion.”

Some of this passion between the lovers was evident in arguments arising during their turbulent love life.

Miss Dell’Olio admitted shouting at the England boss on occasions and said she displayed a range of emotions such as crying or being very cold and silent.

The relationship between Miss Dell’Olio and 56-year-old Eriksson dates back to the time when he was manager of Italian club Lazio.

Two years ago it emerged that Eriksson, who has a son, Johan, 24, and daughter Lina, 17, by his ex-wife Ann-Christine, had an affair with fellow Swede and TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson.

He was also reported to have bedded TV girl Jayne Connery before claims of the affair with former model and FA secretary Faria Alam rocked the couple’s relationship.

But, in spite of everything that has threatened their pairing, Miss Dell’Olio claimed she has been happy since getting back together with Eriksson.

She also appeared to dismiss reports that she plans to reveal secrets about Eriksson and his alleged affairs in an explosive diary, saying only that she keeps notes on “emotional things”.

ES magazine is out tomorrow.
