Son of Sam serial killer David Berkowitz has been denied freedom for the sixth time.
A parole board in New York noted his “significant prison ministry”, clean disciplinary record and expression of remorse, but concluded that his release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would undermine respect for the law.
The Son of Sam terrorised New York City in 1976 and 77 and admitted a string of handgun attacks.
He was convicted of shooting dead six people and injuring several others.
Berkowitz, 58, who says Jesus has forgiven him, is serving 25 years to life at a maximum-security jail north west of New York City.
He has been in prison for 35 years and is eligible for another parole hearing in two years.
