Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle is calling on the British football industry to follow his lead in raising money for the victims of the Asian tsunami catastrophe.
Hoddle has been moved by the plight of millions caught up in the aftermath of the catastrophe and has started a collection with players, backroom staff, board members and administrative personnel at Molineux having already made donations.
Supporters will also be asked to donate money when Plymouth visit Molineux on New Year’s Day.
“I’m sure the supporters will already have made some form of individual donation, whether it’s been at the garage when they fill up with petrol or when they have gone down to the shops,” he said.
“But I’m still hoping people will come down to the Molineux and feel able to put their hands in their pockets again.
“Natural disasters like this could affect any of us at any time and when we’re anywhere in the world.
“I really believe it’s important our industry do something to help and the players have started things off by putting into the bucket at training this morning.
“So we’ve started a fund for the victims of the disaster and I’d like to see the whole of football, from the Conference to the Premiership, make a similar effort.
“This is an opportunity for the whole of football to make an unbelievable amount of money for what has been an unbelievable disaster.”
