The Data Protection Commissioner is reportedly due to take prosecutions against two Dublin-based companies for sending unsolicited “spam” to mobile phone users.
Reports this morning said summons were due to be issued against the two firms in the coming weeks.
Both companies will reportedly be charged with sending unsolicited text messages to mobile phone users and are the first to be prosecuted under anti-spam legislation introduced in late 2003.
If convicted, the companies could face fines of up to €3,000 for every message sent. The directors of the firms could also be barred from holding directorships in other businesses.
