Britain’s Laura Davies and Momoko Ueda are tied for the lead on seven under par heading into Sunday’s final round of the Mizuno Classic.
Davies carded a second-round 72 after being penalised two shots for playing from the wrong place on the 14th hole.
“I could have a three, four-shot lead right now quite easily, which is just rotten really,” Davies said. “I’m very, very disappointed.”
Davies was penalised for failing to move her ball back to the correct place on the 14th green after moving it out of the way of her playing partner.
A 20-time winner on the LPGA, Davies is seeking her first title since winning the Wegmans Rochester International in 2001.
Ueda carded a 67 in the second round with six birdies and one bogey.
Maria Hjorth, Mie Nakata and Reilly Rankin share third place on six under but defending champion Karrie Webb is out of contention on five over after a 76.
