Godolphin’s Rule Of Law heads the 19 horses remaining in the betfair.com St Leger at the latest forfeit stage.
The colt was an impressive winner of last week’s Daily Telegraph Great Voltigeur Stakes at York and quickly moved to the head of the betting for the Doncaster Classic on September 11.
Rule Of Law is vying for favouritism with the Michael Stoute-trained Quiff, who emphatically landed the Aston Upthorpe Yorkshire Oaks at the same meeting, and is on course to give her trainer an elusive first victory in the race.
Let The Lion Roar looks set to reoppose the Godolphin horse for the fifth time this season at Town Moor, having never finished in front of him, most recently receiving a two-and-a-half-length beating on the Knavesmire.
Stoute could also be represented by Maraahel, who created a favourable impression when landing the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last month, a recognised trial for the world’s oldest Classic.
Aidan O’Brien, who landed the race last year with Brian Boru and with Milan in 2001, is responsible for nine entries this time around including Great Voltigeur third Go For Gold, Budweiser Irish Derby third Tycoon and Two Miles West, runner-up in the Queen’s Vase at Roya Ascot.
Other significant contenders to hold their ground include the Vodafone Derby fourth Percussionist, and the Mick Quinlan-trained Frank Sonata, who entered the reckoning for the St Leger with a victory in the Listed July Trophy at Haydock last month.
Notable withdrawals for the £400,000 (€594,500) contest include Derby winner North Light, one-time favourite Duke Of Venice and impressive York scorer Day Flight.
There is a final chance for horses to be supplemented at a cost of £25,000 (€37,200) at the five-day stage on Monday week.
