'Strictly' star tried out for '50 Shades' role

Thom Evans auditioned for the role of Christian Grey.

The former rugby union player and ex-boyfriend of model Kelly Brook has revealed he tried out for the sought after part in the upcoming movie adaptation of E.L James' novel '50 Shades of Grey' and described the process as a "great experience".

The 29-year-old star - who missed out on the role when it was awarded first to Charlie Hunnam and later, to Jamie Dornan - said: "I went up for Christian Grey. The audition was pretty tame to be honest, but it was a great experience for me.

"It's such a huge project and I'd be lying to say I wouldn't have loved to have got the role. But I think Jamie is perfect for it and I can't wait to see it."

Thom - who has previously shared his plans to pursue a career in acting - also confessed that while he would prefer to work in the UK, he believes there are more opportunities for him in Los Angeles.

He explained to the Daily Star newspaper: "Ideally I'd like to do theatre stuff here and do things in England before I go anywhere else - it's just the opportunity for auditions over there [in Los Angeles]

at certain times are obviously substantial."

'50 Shades of Grey' - which is set for release on February 13 this year - also stars Dakota Johnson, Rita Ora and Jennifer Ehle.
