Daly at Clare helm for another term

Two-time All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Daly was last night ratified for another year's term as manager of the Clare hurling team.

The Clarecastle clubman offered his services to the county board for another 12 months, having taken over from Cyril Lyons in October 2003.

"Anthony only wanted the one year," explained Clare PRO Des Crowe. "That's the way he works.

"The board would have approved him for another five years if that was what he wanted."

Daly's first year in charge saw Clare bow out of the Munster championship on a heavy 3-21 to 1-8 defeat from Waterford back in May, but two wins in the qualifiers saw them set up an All-Ireland quarter final date with champions Kilkenny.

An early goal from Eddie Brennan seperated the sides in a 1-11 to 0-9 replay win for the Cats.

Daly's back-room team remains the same with Fr Harry Bohan, who previously led the county to four Munster senior finals, and former U21 boss Alan Cunningham as selectors, and Johnnie Glynn as trainer.
