Olympic gold medalist Vera Shimanskaya has been arrested in Spain and accused of being a card sharp.

The 22 year-old former champion Russian gymnast, who won gold at the 2000 Olympics, was charged with fraud after her arrest last night at a casino near Valencia.

The slim blonde was held with her her partner, Ladislav Luvev, after being watched by surveillance cameras.

Spanish police had been seeking the pair after complaints from a casino in Marbella on the Costa del Sol.
