Jose Maria Olazabal has no current plans to give at least one rising star of the European Tour a taste of the Ryder Cup.
Martin Kaymer spent the week with Nick Faldo’s side in Louisville in 2008, Ross Fisher turned down the chance, and at Celtic Manor two years ago Colin Montgomerie invited both Welshman Rhys Davies and Matteo Manassero inside the ropes.
Montgomerie described Davies as “a Ryder Cup player of the future – the very near future”, but he is only 126th on this season’s European Tour money list and 317th in the world two years after reaching 44th.
Manassero, not 20 until next April, became the circuit’s youngest-ever winner less than three weeks after watching Europe win and added the Malaysian Open last season.
