The wife of Mark Thatcher flew into Britain this morning, reportedly en route to a move to the United States.

Lady Diane Thatcher and her two children Michael, 15, and 11-year-old Amanda, left her husband, who has been accused over an alleged plot to topple the government of oil-rich Equatorial Guinea, under house arrest in South Africa.

Her flight from Cape Town landed at Heathrow’s Terminal One at 6.10am and she emerged into the arrivals hall surrounded by police and airport staff around an hour and 20 minutes later.

Wearing sunglasses, she refused to comment on why she had left South Africa or whether she was going to visit former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher, her mother-in-law.
