Dr Sharp may make a quick reappearance in the totesport Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday after finishing down the field at York last weekend.
The six-year-old stayer was eighth behind Juniper Girl over the Cesarewitch distance of two and a quarter miles after leading three furlongs from home.
Tate believes Dr Sharp might have still been in need of the run as it was only his second start after four months off the track.
“He might run because we can’t fault him,” said Tate.
“He just lost a bit fitness as I had to rough him off in the summer because he was quite poorly in the spring.
“It might just be taking him time to get race fit again. That’s all I can find so far.
“He might run because there isn’t much else for him.”
Dr Sharp is 50-1 with the sponsors.
