Late penalty eases UCD's relegation worries

A disputed late penalty gave UCD victory as they came from behind to move a major step closer to securing their Premier Division status - and leave Harps' hanging onto the top flight by a thread.

Harps got the start they would have wanted with the lead goal after just three minutes.

Kevin McHugh controlled Paddy McGrenaghan’s pass to rifle to the roof of the net for his 13th goal of the season.

But that lasted just seven minutes when College skipper Tony McDonnell was left unmarked to head home Brian Shorthall’s cross.

McDonnell then might have put UCD in front on 23 minutes but planted another header wide.

The winner came five minutes from time when Haprs player/boss Anthony Gorman was adjudged to have tripped McDonnell and Robbie Martin slotted home the spot kick.
