Man kills children outside estranged wife’s home
A man who was returning his three children to his estranged wife killed the youngsters and then committed suicide as they sat in his car outside her house.
James Smallwood shot dead Corie, 10, Casey, four, and Chase, three, before shooting himself outside the home in Throckmorton, Texas.
Beth Smallwood, 33, said her husband had threatened to kill the family before.
‘‘I told him I wanted a divorce and that’s when he pulled the gun,’’ she said.
She said she was sitting on the front porch with her mother when James Smallwood drove up the gravel driveway in his mother’s car.
She called police when he began honking the horn, apparently trying to get her to walk out to the driveway, said Clay Gober, Beth Smallwood’s brother.
James Smallwood shot himself a short time later.
Beth Smallwood hit out at the judge who gave her husband unsupervised visitation rights last month.
She had filed for divorce in November but it had not been finalised.
