Jeremy Noseda has suggested going conditions are likely to dictate whether Sixties Icon will run at Newmarket on Friday or wait for Goodwood’s Gordon Stakes the following week.
The Galileo colt landed a Windsor maiden on soft going in May before finishing a five-length seventh to Sir Percy when sent off at 66-1 in the Vodafone Derby.
He followed that with another highly-respectable effort at Royal Ascot, where he stayed on stoutly to finish third to Papal Bull in the King Edward VII Stakes.
Despite acquitting himself well on a quickish surface on those two occasions, Sixties Icon’s connections believe their charge will be seen to better effect if he is able to return to action with some ease in the ground.
And while Noseda hopes he will take his chance at Goodwood, he has not ruled out Friday’s Corporate FX Overseas Property Conditions Stakes at Headquarters, with rain forecast in the next few days.
“With storms forecast for Thursday and the latter part of the week, Sixties Icon is a possible for Newmarket on Friday,” he told www.jeremynoseda.co.uk
“Ideally, though, I would like to aim him at the Gordon Stakes.”
