Man blames church bells for marriage breakdown

A man is trying to sue his local church - claiming that the constant ringing of bells at a church opposite his home contributed to the breakdown of his marriage.

John Devaney from Rhode Island in America claims in his court papers that the bell "gonged" at least 700 times a week - causing him and his now ex-wife to argue all the time.

But the local parish priest says the church's "brief bell ringing" is reasonable and within its rights.
