The Football Association will await the report of referee Andy D’Urso before deciding whether to take action against Tottenham after a fifth missile-throwing incident of the season yesterday.
A coin was thrown at assistant referee Alan Green during the 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at home to Chelsea.
It is the second time an object has been thrown in a match between Spurs and Chelsea. The other incident came when the sides met at Stamford Bridge in the Worthington Cup semi-final, first leg.
It is also the third such incident at White Hart Lane this season. An object was thrown when former Spurs defender Sol Campbell returned to the ground to play for his new club, Arsenal, in the Premiership, and a missile was also thrown in a Worthington Cup tie at home to Bolton.
The other incident also came in the Worthington Cup, when Spurs won at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground.
Tottenham vice-chairman David Buchler said the club were already closing in on the culprit, and promised to hand out a lifetime ban to whoever is caught and found guilty of throwing the object.
Goals from William Gallas, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Graeme Le Saux who dismissed after 76 minutes for a second bookable offence and Gudjohnsen again settled a red-hot tie.
