The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises association has welcomed the EU decision to censure the government over its anti-inflation measures.
The ISME said the last two budgets have contributed greatly to a "borrow and spend" mentality throughout the country.
It claimed that the growth in consumer credit rates was three times greater than the European average.
The ISME also called on the Government to do more to encourage saving.
