John Best has still to receive a firm offer for impressive Nunthorpe Stakes winner Kingsgate Native.
Best and his main backer John Mayne have made a habit of turning bargain buys into profitable performers, but they have struck gold with the Mujadil juvenile.
After beating his elders in the Coolmore-sponsored Group One event at York, and breaking his maiden tag in the process, potential bidders will need to come up with a substantial offer.
“There has been quite a lot of phone calls from various agents and people interested in the horse, but nothing concrete as yet,” Best revealed.
“I think that could change within the next week, however. I think the ideal situation would be if we could sell the stallion rights and manage to keep him for a while longer with some sort of bonus scheme if the horse wins any more Group Ones.
“The horse seems to be improving all the time and there is a chance he will be running in the King’s Stand, the Nunthorpe again, the Prix de l’Abbaye and maybe even the Breeders’ Cup Sprint next year.
“The ultimate is to win a Group One and the only thing better than that is to win a Classic. John has been very lucky with other horses we have sold on, but he has hit the jackpot this time. We just have to do everything right now so that we benefit as much as possible,” he told At The Races.
“We are hoping to keep him in training here, but there have also been enquiries from America which means there is a good chance he could be gone by the end of the year as there are plenty of races there for him next year. Even if he is still with us he could compete over there.”
