The complexities of investing in stocks and shares and the operations of the Irish Stock Exchange is now much easier to understand thanks to a new e-learning tool that has been launched on the Irish Stock Exchange’s website www.ise.ie.

The new e-learning tool demystifies the world of securities markets and includes, among others, sections on IPOs, dividends, preference shares and bonds.

This latest addition to the Exchange’s website also explains in a practical way how investors interact with stockbrokers, the various types of investment portfolios and how the stock market is regulated and investors protected.

The new tool also explains in a straightforward way investment risks, how companies are valued and the relationship between shares, the stock market and the general economy

It also incorporates the latest Flash software which will allow users not just to learn about the working of the Stock Exchange and the investment process in general.

It will also allow users work through some practical interactive examples which will explain in a clear way how the market operates and how different types of securities can behave in various market circumstances.

Speaking at the launch of the enhanced website, the Irish Stock Exchange‘s director of trading and regulation, Brian Healy, said: “The launch of this e-learning tool on our recently-enhanced website is a significant move aimed at demystifying the working of the Stock Exchange and the investment world in general.

"We have deliberately designed it to be as jargon-free and user-friendly as possible and to allow users learn for themselves about the stock market in a practical way.”
