Aer Lingus announces new Dublin-Washington route

Aer Lingus has announced new direct flights from Dublin to Washington for 2015.

The airline is set to run a four times weekly summer service from Dublin to Washington-Dulles from May 1 next.

The carrier said it will also increase capacity on some of its other transatlantic routes next summer – including a daily service from San Francisco to Dublin (currently five weekly); a third daily flight from New York to Dublin for the peak summer months; as well as an increase in frequency on the Orlando-Dublin route and an increase in capacity on the Boston-Shannon route, also for the peak summer season.

The expansion has been welcomed by tourism chiefs.

“Today’s announcement by Aer Lingus is really great news for Irish tourism for 2015. The new flight from Washington DC and the increased capacity on other transatlantic routes will certainly help boost both leisure and business travel from the United States to the island of Ireland," said Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland.

"As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism."
