Hard work for defending champs

England sevens sensation Ugo Monye made things look easy in victories over Taiwan and Tonga – but coach Joe Lydon was still taking nothing for granted after day two of the Credit Suisse First Boston Hong Kong Sevens.

“It’s been a long day at the office,” said Lydon.

“All the games here are hard and physical. You can’t tell that from the scorelines sometimes, but no team can avoid the hard yards to get the results.”

On a day when Roland Reid picked up a hat-trick of tries in Scotland’s 38-0 victory over Sri Lanka and Ken Morris did likewise for Wales in their 40-12 win over Holland, defending champions England raced to a 31-0 half-time lead over Taiwan as Monye scored virtually every time he touched the ball.
