Wayne McCullough got his ring comeback off the ground with a second-round stoppage of American Mike Juarez at the Pechanga Resort Hotel in California in the early hours of this morning.
The former WBC bantamweight champion, returning to the ring since his March 2003 defeat at the hands of WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison, knocked out Juarez with just a second remaining in the round.
“I’m very happy with the result. I thought it may have taken me a bit longer because he has been in with some top fighters like Erik Morales and gone the distance,” said McCullough.
“But once I caught him clean he went over and he was out cold.
“It’s great to be back and I got a great reception from the crowd.
“I can now build on this and look ahead to staying active,” added McCullough.
“For me it’s all about staying busy because when I am that’s when I give my best. I’m just glad to have this one out of the way. The cut didn’t bother me. It needed five stitches but it’s only a small cut.”
