A 17-year-old boy today admitted accidentally shooting his 12-year-old sister dead at their family home in Manchester, UK, with a handgun held illegally by their mother.

Kasha Peniston pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his sister Kamilah by shooting her in the forehead with a .38 snub-nosed revolver.

The gun was being held by the boy’s mother and had been buried in the back garden of the family council house in Gorton, Manchester.

The boy was playing with the gun when it went off, killing his sister Kamilah.

Kasha, appearing at Manchester Crown Court, did not intend any ill will towards his sister, the court heard.

He did not intend to fire the powerful handgun and it was simply “a terrible tragedy and terrible accident”, Mr Justice Holland told the court.

The youngster’s mother Natasha, 33, was away in London to attend a funeral.

She had told him not to touch the firearm.

Instead the boy got hold of the gun inside the house. He had the gun in his pocket while he was in the living room and his sister was lying on the sofa.

The gun went off, with the bullet hitting Kamilah in the forehead.
