Irish boxing star Katie Taylor is through to the Ahmet Comet Cup final in Turkey following another emphatic victory in Istanbul this afternoon.
The 20-year-old World and European lightweight champion stopped French puncher Cindy Orain on the 15-point rule (16-1) in round two and will now meet Turkeys Tatar Gulson in today's 60Kg final.
Gulson is the only boxer to have beaten Taylor in the last two years chalking up a semi final win in the European Union Championships.
However, Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, exacted sweet revenge for that reversal when she beat Tatar en route to winning her second European Championships gold on the trot in Poland last year.
Taylor's complete dominance of the Ahmet Comet cup so far is going way beyond an Irish athlete having one of those tournaments where nothing can go wrong.
In her three fights so far she has stopped three opponents on the 15-point rule (which obliges a ref to stop a contest once a boxer goes 15 points ahead-except in the last round) in round two.
Amazingly she has spent under twelve minutes in the ring so far racking up 53 points and conceding just eight.
Tatar will present Taylor, whose dad and coach Peter is in her corner in Istanbul, with a stern test in front of her own supporters today, but Taylor, who is ranked number one in the world, says she is confident ahead of the decider.
She said: "I'm looking forward to the final and I have enjoyed my three fights out here so far this week. Gulson will be a tough fight but I am feeling very confident."
Meanwhile, the 2007 National U/19 Championships will concluded tonight (May 12th) with finals in all weight categories.
